There is probably no American road more famous than Route 66. Home to some wacky attractions, ‘50s-style diners, and Americana kitsch, it’s no wonder the road has been featured in so many movies and songs.

In fact, there is one little stretch of the highway in New Mexico that plays its own song thanks to some well-engineered and patriotic rumble strips.

Located east of Albuquerque between mile markers 4 and 5 is a quarter-mile stretch of highway that sings "America the Beautiful" when traveling 45 miles per hour.

It sounds something like this. Pretty cool, huh? You also don’t have to worry about potentially missing the song; several signs provide plenty of warning that the musical road is approaching.

The singing road is also more than just a cool little attraction. It was designed as a method to help control speeding by aiding drivers in being more cognizant of their speed and position on the road.
