This 338-mile road trip will take you from central New Mexico all the way to the Colorado border, with some fascinating sights in between.

1. Pecos National Historical Park

Your first stop is Pecos National Historical Park outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. This site features plenty of hiking trails through ancestral sites of the Pecos Pueblo, the mission church, and even the Civil War Glorieta Battlefield.

2. Conchas Lake State Park

From Pecos National Historical Site you'll head east, passing through Las Vegas, New Mexico, all the way to Conchas Lake State Park. This lake is absolutely gorgeous and has plenty of coves, canyons, and sandy beaches for you to explore while stretching your legs.

3. Mesalands Dinosaur Museum

Continue heading west, but don't miss your stop at the Mesalands Community College Dinosaur Museum! This museum has tons of dinosaur fossils, many of which were found in New Mexico.

4. Ute Lake State Park

After the Dinosaur museum, you'll keep heading--you guessed it--west! Ute Lake State Park is your destination and has some of the best sunsets and fishing in the state.

5. Sugarite Canyon State Park

Your last destination on this road trip is north, all the way up to the Colorado border. There, you'll find Sugarite Canyon State Park, where you can view the border of the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.
