A Drive On This Scenic Byway In New Mexico Is The Perfect Fall Day Trip

The Land of Enchantment is home to some pretty incredible scenic byways. You can travel through all types of terrain and capture some extraordinary views. During the fall months, there is one scenic byway that you certainly do not want to miss — the High Road to Taos Scenic Byway. Along this byway, you will not only travel through Spanish villages and by ancient pueblos, but when the fall colors are at their peak, you’ll drive through seas of orange, yellow, and amber.

The High Road to Taos Scenic Byway takes you from Santa Fe to Taos. It is one of the most beautiful scenic drives in New Mexico during the fall.

This road is more than 50 miles of pure beauty. Bring your camera and stop along this scenic drive in New Mexico to capture some images of the gorgeous fall foliage.

As you travel on this road, you’ll pass over all types of terrain, from mountains and forests to desert areas. It is a breathtaking adventure.

When you drive through Chimayo, stop at the tiny church that has become one of the most popular churches in New Mexico. El Santuario de Chimayo is the last surviving Spanish fortified plaza and is believed to be built with miraculous healing powers.

Truchas is another remarkable place to explore along the High Road to Taos Scenic Byway. This small town is built on a mesa below Truchas Peak, New Mexico’s second-tallest mountain. Here, you can capture some pretty spectacular views and the fall colors are stunning.

You will not want to miss the San Francisco de Asis Church in Taos. This is one of the most photographed and painted churches in the Land of Enchantment. This beautiful church was built in the early 1800s.
