If you want to add to your bucket list this year, plan a visit to the following 12 incredible small towns in New Mexico — one for each month of the year. 1. Red River
Also known as the snowiest town in New Mexico, Red River is an amazing place to visit. Stunning mountains surround the area and cute shops line the main street. The town also hosts a variety of exciting events and festivals throughout the year! Just make sure that if you plan a visit during the winter months you pack accordingly!
2. Arroyo Seco
This quaint village, located near Taos, is a great place for strolling, shopping, and dining. You'll feel your cares melt away when you visit this lovely place. If you want to spend some time outside during your visit to Arroyo Seco, lace up your hiking boots and explore the short and easy El Salto del Agua Waterfall Trail. It's the perfect outdoor adventure for the entire family.
3. Abiquiú
If you want to explore one of the best scenic small towns in New Mexico, visit Abiquiú. The gorgeous panoramic views inspired artist Georgia O’Keefe, and it's easy to see why. If you love hiking, check out the Chimney Rock Trail and prepare to be amazed.

Nestled in Harding County sits a tiny town that many people pass by. Mosquero may not have a large population, but it does have a charming main street that's full of vibrant murals.
8. Magdalena
Stargazers adore the tiny town of Magdalena, New Mexico. Because this area has so little light pollution, you can see galaxies shimmer above you in the night sky. This is a fantastic small town for a weekend getaway as there is plenty to do and you'll feel far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
9. White Rock
As one of the best towns to visit in New Mexico, this delightful community sits just a few miles away from Los Alamos. While there is so much to love about White Rock, its remote beauty will leave you breathless. Drive to the top of the White Rock Overlook and soak up the astounding sights. You won't regret it.
10. Mountainair
Approximately 900 people live in Mountainair, but the area is big on charm. After you stroll down the main street, explore the nearby Salinas Pueblo Missions and Manzano Mountains State Park.
