The Canyon Hiking Trail In New Mexico That Boasts The Most Spellbinding Views
Discover the scenic White Rock Canyon hike near Los Alamos, New Mexico, featuring stunning views, ancient petroglyphs, and a seasonal waterfall.
Looking for an excuse to get out of the house this week and enjoy some of that lovely New Mexico sunshine? If you’re up for a hike, then you’ll want to check out this awesome hike near Los Alamos.
Now that is a gorgeous view, don’t you think? This view and the photos following can be found at White Rock Canyon at Overlook Park in White Rock, which is located about 9 miles southeast of Los Alamos.
Most people tend to drive to the overlook itself but if you really want to take in the views, try out one of the impressive trails that connect in a loop.
The trail loop measures about 7.8 miles and, despite the packed dirt trail, it can be a tough journey since you will descend to the canyon floor and then travel back up.
You'll also get a chance to see the Rio Grande...
...and ancient petroglyphs!
You'll also find a seasonal waterfall hiding in this canyon!
If you’re not quite up for that trip, then we recommend trying just the White Rock Canyon Rim Trail, which is 3.8 miles and follows the canyon’s rim. You’ll still find beautiful views but without excessive stress on your knees.
The White Rock Canyon is located in White Rock near Los Alamos. The overlook’s location can be found at this Google Maps link and you can find details about the hiking trail on the Los Alamos County website.
