In my book, this quaint community, just 90 miles from Manchester, is the perfect place for a White Mountains road trip or a fun-filled getaway. There is so much to see that I could spend hours telling you about this special place, but in the interest of time and space, I will focus on a brand-new relaxation and wellness spot that is quickly becoming one of the best road trip stops in New Hampshire. If you are taking a trip to the area, you don’t want to miss North Conway’s White Mountains Sauna Haus.

Why This Stop Is Worth the Detour

This Scandinavian retreat is the perfect place to rest and recharge after a long day of hiking or skiing. It is also a great place to visit if you just want to relax. The community space features two large saunas as well as several cold plunges. Both experiences offer numerous health benefits.

The sauna is housed in an old barn that dates back to the 1800s. It was designed as a space for visitors to relax and reconnect with one another in a one-on-one setting. It is as much a community gathering spot as it is a wellness center. The space also offers a Nordic cafe and bar where visitors can order a delicious sauna stew bowl or mug, an Avocado Smørebord, or a grilled cheese sandwich.

The White Mountains Sauna Haus is open from Thursday through Sunday, and no reservations are required to use the facilities. Guests simply purchase a single-use pass or a punch card for multiple sessions. Visitors are welcome to stay on-site for as long as they wish. Please note that bathing suits must be worn in the sauna and cold plunge baths. And yes, there are showers on-site.

When you are finished with your sauna or cold plunge, just pop in the adjacent Local Grocer, a funky food store that features organic products, eco-friendly gifts, and specialty items. They also whip up some great smoothies.  

Or if you are craving something a little stronger, you can stop by the Cathedral Ledge Distillery. It is right next door to the White Mountain Sauna Haus. It is a wonderful place to have a drink, take a distillery tour, or shop for some spirits to take home with you.
