You Don’t Need to Ski to Love This Snow Tubing Hill in New Hampshire

The epic snow tubing trails at Gunstock Mountain offer a fun way to experience a winter adventure even if you don't know how to ski.

When you grow up in New Hampshire, skiing is something that you just learn to do. As a child, I never excelled at the sport, but still enjoyed the experience of gliding down the hills and spending an afternoon at a majestic, snowy mountain resort. Last year, after more than twenty years off the slopes, I finally made a return to skiing. And while the experience was a lot of fun, I have to admit that it is still not my number one outdoor winter activity. My comfort level rests with a different snowy adventure, enjoying the hills via snow tubing. There are several wonderful places to enjoy an afternoon of tubing throughout the state, but none as epic as the tubing hills of Gunstock Mountain in Gilford.

I love tubing because it is such a fun way to enjoy the hills with friends or family members who don't ski. At Gunstock, adventurers of all ages and experience can enjoy the thrill of the hill! And best of all, you don’t even need to trek to the top. Just step onto the magic carpet conveyor lift, and you are good to go. When you get there, simply sit back in your tube and brace yourself for an exhilarating ride down.

Gunstock has some of the best snow tubing in New Hampshire. Their tubing area is separate from the ski trails and consists of up to nine expertly manicured lanes. Each tubing session lasts for two hours, and riders can hit the hill as many times as they desire during this time period. If you enjoy more of a party vibe when tubing, you can also try night tubing under the lights on select evenings. This is such a fun option for large groups of friends. Be sure to ask about discounts for parties of twenty or more.

After completing your tubing session, you may wish to try other non-ski winter resort activities, such as snowshoeing and Nordic skiing. Or you can just hang out at Gunstock’s historic lodge (located close to the tubing hill), where you can warm yourself by the giant stone fireplace and grab a meal or hot chocolate from the food court or on-site pubs.

And if you are already a skier, you may just want to head out and hit the slopes. Gunstock has 49 ski and snowboard trails on 227 skiable acres. They also offer lessons if you haven’t skied before or need a refresher.
