It's no secret that Nevada is home to some really strange places. We could even be considered the "Capital of Weird" when it comes to out-of-the-ordinary attractions. Almost every Nevada town has its own little quirks, but the town featured here could truly be considered the weirdest of them all. You won't be able to resist a road trip to the strangest town in the West. You'll definitely never forget your time spent here!
Looking at it today, it's hard to believe the almost totally abandoned town of Goldfield was once the largest community in all of Nevada. It's home to less than 200 people today, but the prosperous mining town was once bustling with over 30,000 people.
Today, Goldfield makes for a pretty great day trip if you're looking for a not-so-typical adventure. Nevada is full of weird towns but this one is weird weird.
The few people that called Goldfield home today are interesting, to say the least. The town is full of strange structures, all of them worthy of a quick photograph. Not only are many of them original buildings from more than 100 years ago, but they are also pretty fun to look at.
It's creepy to think about how fast people abandoned this quaint town for the next boomtown as the mines began to dwindle. One day Goldfield was considered a respectable city and the next it was almost completely empty. It's a good thing its unique spirit still lives.
As you stroll through the town, you'll witness several old dilapidated structures that are typical of Nevada ghost towns. You can even go inside some of them and look around. Most of them look to be frozen in the time period in which they were built.
There are several historic attractions to check out. The Santa Fe Saloon is often considered Nevada's longest running establishment. Stop by for a drink if you wish, but be warned that they pride themselves on having "Nevada's Meanest Bartender".
Definitely check out the historic courthouse. The courthouse was considered one of the most elaborate and beautiful buildings in Nevada when it was first constructed in 1908.
Perhaps the one attraction that gives Goldfield its reputation for all things weird is the International Car Forest of the Last Church. Yes, that's really it's official name.
The car forest is a collection of over 40 automobiles that have been carefully placed to stand on their ends, or stacked on top of each other. This unique sculpture garden certainly grabs your attention! This is truly one of those "Only in Nevada" types of places.
Goldfield is many things. It's perfectly fascinating, historic, and weird all at the same time. It's places like this one that remind us how amazing it is to live in our beautifully strange Nevada!
