Washoe City has no luxury resorts, no flashing lights, or high-roller casinos. Instead, the town has a beautiful 5,800-acre creek-fed lake with the same name—Washoe Lake. Washoe Lake State Park surrounds the lake, offering visitors a place to hike, view migratory birds, fish, paddle, boat, swim, camp, ride horses, or simply relax on the sandy areas. On those days when the wind picks up in the valley, you’ll see locals windsurfing on the water. And if you get lucky, you might spot wild horses along the shoreline at this underrated state park in Nevada.
