The Incredible Flower Road Trip Through Nebraska Is The Ultimate Spring Adventure
While there are many reasons why we love spring, at the top of the list is flowers. Whether found out in the wild or in a professionally landscaped garden, there is something magical about the colorful blooms. Since there are a handful of places where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful flowers of Nebraska, we decided to create this road trip itinerary featuring a handful of our favorites. It’s the ultimate spring adventure.
If you complete this road trip in its entirety, you will travel approximately 535 miles one way. We recommend breaking it up into multiple days and using this interactive map to easily customize your starting and ending destinations.
1. Fort Robinson State Park, Crawford
If you love wildflowers, you will fall in love with
Fort Robinson State Park. This destination is where you will find wildflowers such as snakeweed and the dotted gayfeather.
2. Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area, Gering
Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area is one destination that will make you fall in love with Nebraska during the spring. This area is home to wildflowers of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I recommend you head to the Wildcat Hills Nature Center for detailed information about the wildflowers found here.
3. Gjerloff Prairie
The Gjerloff Prairie is a popular place for hiking and one of our favorites is the guided Spring Wildflower Hike. You may want to plan your road trip so you can take part in this adventure each year.
4. Sunken Gardens, Lincoln
Of course, no flower road trip in Nebraska would be complete without a visit to Sunken Gardens in Lincoln. You could spend an entire afternoon (or longer) walking through the 1.5-acre garden, admiring the water features, checking out the sculptures, and so much more. Just don't forget a camera. It is beautiful here.
5. Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum, Lincoln
The Maxwell Arboretum is a 5-acre garden located on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Walk among the trees, shrubs, and flowers throughout the garden. Sit on the grassy areas and relax before you make the trek home or even bring a picnic. May is one of the best times to visit as the majority of flowers are in bloom.
