One of the best things about this scenic drive in Missouri is it won't take all day. You can easily turn it into a day trip by stopping along the way, maybe going on a hike and having a picnic. However, you don't need more than an hour to drive along this picturesque path.

Gas up the car for the short-but-sweet 23-mile drive along Glade Top Trail, which wanders through Mark Twain National Forest. Pack a picnic, too.

Any season - from the colorful days of spring to the snow-capped afternoons of winter - is perfect for a trek along this scenic forest byway as long as the weather cooperates

A popular road since the 1930s, Glade Top Trail hasn't changed much in the ensuing years.

While you can likely finish the drive in under an hour, allot at least 90-minutes to two hours for your journey. After all, there are seven overlooks dotted along the route.

If you have the time, stop at each of the seven overlooks for sensational views of Mark Twain National Forest.

On a clear day, you can see all the way to Arkansas' Boston Mountains.

The route is comprised of all-weather gravel and two lanes, making it easy to traverse in just about any kind of vehicle. You'll pass a variety of scenery - from sweeping countryside to limestone glades.

Pull over; have a picnic, and marvel at the incredible views. The scenic route is open all year round and features parking, bathrooms, and campsites.
