There are lots of beautiful places to visit in Mississippi. Many of those places get even better at sunrise and sunset, which got us thinking: Wouldn’t it be great to plan a road trip centered around sunrises, sunsets, and adventure?! So, we mapped out a route packed with all three, along with a couple of great eateries.
Kick off your road trip with a visit to the famous
" target="_blank">Tatonut Donut Shop in Ocean Springs.
Touted as the “home of the only real donut,” the shop is known for its fluffy donuts, which are made with potato flour.
The unique donuts are whipped up daily and often sell out; however, that won’t be an issue if you arrive prior to sunrise. Fortunately, Tatonut Donut Shop opens bright and early at 5:30 a.m. Even luckier, the shop serves gourmet coffee, helping to make early mornings a bit easier.
Once you’ve gotten your fill of donuts, head to the beach in Bay St. Louis to watch the sunrise.
If the weather’s warm, you can go for a dip. If not, you can simply admire the sights and sounds of the beach.
Next stop - lunch at Ms. Candia’s Café in Foxworth.
The name of this diner might have changed – it used to be known as Country Diner – but the fare is as delicious as ever.
Everything is whipped up by Ms. Candia, who knows her way around the kitchen.
Patrons are treated to a buffet of Southern comfort food.
Wrap up your road trip with a visit to Red Bluff, otherwise known as Mississippi’s Little Grand Canyon.
The massive geologic formation is just a short drive from the café. It’s located on private property; however, the owner has allowed the public to visit for years.
Red Bluff formed due to erosion caused by the nearby Pearl River.
The canyon has only gotten bigger over time. These days, it’s over 150 feet deep, one-half mile wide, and nearly one mile long.
Red Bluff is beautiful any time of day, but there’s no doubt it’s even more stunning when cast in the sun’s golden glow.
A great spot for some outdoor fun, Red Bluff can be admired from above AND below. That’s right; you can actually trek down to the base of the canyon.
Well, what do you think? Are these some of the most beautiful places to visit in Mississippi at sunrise and sunset? Are you ready to embark on this epic one-day road trip across Mississippi? Need to make changes to the route? You can always alter the map the suit your needs.
