Experience An Authentic Taste Of Chinatown At Mr. Chen’s In Mississippi

Mr. Chen’s in Jackson, Mississippi offers an authentic Chinatown experience with traditional Taiwanese cuisine and a unique supermarket.

There are Chinatowns scattered throughout the country. And while we may not have a Chinatown here in Mississippi, we do have a restaurant that’ll make you feel as if you’re in Chinatown. Take a look:

One of Jackson’s best kept secrets, Mr. Chen’s is discreetly located in a shopping center between Cowboy Maloney’s and Big Lots.

The combination supermarket and restaurant was opened back in 2010 by Wu Long Chen, who once cooked for the Taiwan president!

After Chen retired in 2013, manager Jason Lin and head chef Fisher Yu, who are both natives of China, took over Mr. Chen’s. The two men have continued to serve traditional Taiwanese cuisine, while also adding Chinese-American dishes to the menu.

Though the menu features a variety of Asian cuisines, all the food is prepared with Taiwanese flavors, making it noticeably different than Chinese food typically found in the U.S.

But the fare isn’t the only authentic thing about Mr. Chen’s.

There’s also its overall vibe, which is Chinatown all the way.

The restaurant side of Mr. Chen’s even includes red light fixtures from New York’s Chinatown.

Then there’s the supermarket side of Mr. Chen’s, where you’ll find an incredible array of merchandise.

In addition to Asian sauces, noodles, candies, and other products, there’s a variety of fresh seafood.

Between the tasty, authentic fare and the shelves stocked with unique merchandise, stepping inside Mr. Chen's is like entering another world.

Mr. Chen’s is open 7 days a week. Visit Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Friday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. For more information, call (601) 978-1865. You can also check out Mr. Chen’s website.
