4 Spots in Michigan We’re Especially Thankful for This Year
From art museums to beach towns, these are the four best places to visit in Michigan.
Ever since I was a kid, a trip to Michigan meant a weekend in paradise. Between its cozy stays, incredible beaches, and delicious wineries, there is always something to be explored in the Mitten State. Below, we’ll dive into four of the best places to visit in Michigan that I’m particularly thankful for this year.
1. St. Joseph
The beach town of St. Joseph is one of my favorite places in Michigan. I’ve enjoyed everything from hot summer lake days to winter afternoons at a winery. It’s a place my family has been visiting for years. Warm memories of playing in the lake with my little cousin and enjoying a slice from Silver Beach Pizza on the sand keep me cozy as the seasons start to change. No matter the time of year you visit, you’ll want to swing by the Chocolate Cafe for a sweet treat. Be sure to visit the two St. Joseph lighthouses, and add stops to Lazy Ballerina Winery and the White Pine Winery Tasting Room.
2. The Electric Cheetah - Grand Rapids
Ever since college, I’ve been making a pilgrimage to the Electric Cheetah every time I’m in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Located on the hip Wealthy Street, this yummy restaurant serves some of the best macaroni and cheese dishes I’ve ever had. On a cold winter day, it's perfect for warming up your tummy. One of my favorite college professors recommended this spot to me and my roommates, and now, every time I visit, my mind is flooded with incredible memories of those good times. Plus, you’re just steps away from some of the coolest local shops and cafes in Grand Rapids.
3. The Neighborhood Hotel - Grand Beach
It’s not often you think of a hotel as being one of your favorite spots to visit in a state. For me, The Neighborhood Hotel Grand Beach really is. I had the opportunity to get away to this rustic yet luxurious property with my mom. My mom had just had a kidney transplant, and it was one of the first times we were able to escape from Chicagoland. As a result, this hotel holds a special place in my heart. Complete with a pool, game room, and old-school sports decor, the Neighborhood is one of those places you can really disconnect and get away from it all. Plus, it's just a short drive from one of my favorite Michigan restaurants, the Stray Dog Bar and Grill.
4. Grand Rapids Art Museum - Grand Rapids
Another Grand Rapids favorite for me is the Grand Rapids Art Museum. I’ve dipped into many art museums, and I have to say this one still sits near the top of my list. With a permanent collection of more than 6,000 objects, the Grand Rapids Art Museum is truly a premier destination for art lovers. Plus, they offer a lot of adult-enrichment events like film screenings, GRAM After Dark, workshops, and more.
Michigan will always hold a special place in my heart. With so many outdoor adventures, top-tier museums, and places to explore, it's a destination I know I’ll keep returning to time and time again. Be sure to check out these four spots, as they truly are some of the best places to visit in Michigan. Feeling inspired?
