Nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan is a precious beach town that's so outrageously picturesque you'll feel as if you've fallen into a painting rather than a little Midwestern town. With a population of just over 11,000 people, the entire place is pure magic. Welcome to Grand Haven, a town whose name truly reflects its wonder.

Grand Haven is, well, a haven of amazingness, offering so many things to do, see, and experience that it's impossible to ever get bored here. It's astonishingly beautiful, and I think that once you've been here, you'll never want to leave. I certainly don't.

Despite the fact that Michigan is landlocked, Grand Haven is a classic beach town with all the fun of an oceanside resort spot without the extreme crowding and overzealous tourists you'll find in, say, California. Sure, the town is a vacation destination year-round, but thankfully, most of our visitors are fellow Midwesterners. They all know the secret: Grand Haven, Michigan, is where it's at - especially for lovers of all things water-based.

It's tough to decide where to begin, but Lake Michigan ought to do. In Grand Haven, a world-famous lighthouse on the lake looks like something from a Thomas Kinkade painting more than lil' ol' Michigan. Boating, fishing, and lounging on the shore are all popular activities to partake in, and few things are more delightful for the spirit than a good old-fashioned picnic on the beach.

No matter the time of year, you'll find plenty to do. In the spring, seemingly endless hiking trails and nature spots are calling. Hike the shores of the lake, bike through the beautiful woods, or whatever else your heart craves. It's sure to be an adventure. Bicyclists love the miles of bike paths weaving throughout the town, and typically, traffic is very conscious of those on bikes (unlike what you might experience in bigger cities).

In the summer, endless festivals and warm days abound, with classic beach fun and all the delights of a big city packed into a little town. In the fall, you'd better bring your camera - the autumn foliage around here absolutely explodes, making an already picturesque town even more jaw-dropping.

Embark upon an epic fishing expedition when the salmon are active (usually in the fall), snowboard or snowshoe in the winter, and visit the incredible, unique eateries and restaurants you'll discover downtown year-round. Shopping is a popular activity, too, offering up all sorts of opportunities to find unique, one-of-a-kind items you'll never find anywhere else.
