The 5 Most Colorful Places You Can Find in Massachusetts
These 5 vibrant Massachusetts attractions are sure to brighten any day.
It’s been an extremely snowy winter here in Massachusetts, and although I appreciate the beauty of the season, I am so ready for some colors to emerge from this vast sea of white. Fortunately, there are several places throughout the state to experience a palette of brilliant hues, no matter the weather. If you are also in search of a way to brighten up your days right now, you may want to visit these five most colorful places in Massachusetts.
1. Motif #1 - Rockport, MA
A trip to Rockport is never complete without stopping to observe the bright red fishing shack named Motif #1. This simple, but beautiful structure is said to be the most painted building in the country. It is so cherished by locals that the town of Rockport holds an annual celebration, Motif #1 Day, in honor of the coastal landmark.
2. Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory - Deerfield, MA
Step inside the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield and you will be treated to tropical temps and a rainbow of gorgeous colors. The sanctuary is home to over 4,000 spectacular butterflies that will fly freely around you as you walk through the inside conservatory. If you are lucky, one may also land on your shoulder, head, or hand. You can also see frogs, koi fish, and some interesting insects. In my opinion, the sanctuary is one of the best hidden gems in the state and one worth visiting again and again. You really can’t leave here without a smile.
3. The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum - Springfield, MA
If you have ever read a children’s book by the famed author, Dr. Seuss, you have immersed yourself in a colorful world of fun and whimsy. And that is exactly what you will encounter at this phenomenal Springfield museum. The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum features three floors of family-friendly exhibits, original artwork, and interactive games. But that’s not all. Outside, you will find a quirky garden filled with sculptures of favorite Seuss characters, including the Cat in the Hat and the Grinch.
4. Gingerbread Houses - Oak Bluffs, MA
Martha’s Vineyard may be known for its miles of sandy beaches and extravagant real estate, but one of the most vibrant places to visit in Massachusetts is a series of tiny fairytale houses in Oak Bluffs. Fondly known as the Gingerbread Houses due to their unique architecture, these brightly colored homes were originally part of a late 1880s Methodist campground. Although they are now privately owned, one special cottage is available to rent through Airbnb.
5. Boston Public Garden - Boston, MA
The Boston Public Garden is a gorgeous place to visit any time of year, but the nation's oldest public botanical garden just comes alive with pops of color from corner to corner in the spring. Tulips, pansies, and gorgeous cherry blossoms are some of my favorite blooms in this picture-perfect Boston urban oasis. The iconic Boston landmark is a wonderful spot for a relaxing stroll or a lovely picnic, and it happens to be my favorite colorful spot in Massachusetts.
