You’ll Want To Plan Your Visit To The Highest Town In Maine As Soon As Possible

Rangeley, the highest town in Maine, offers stunning views, outdoor activities, and charming local spots.

Mount Katahdin might be the highest point in Maine, but did you know that you can explore the actual highest town in Maine without strapping on hiking boots? If you long to explore great heights, you'll want to head to Rangeley. It's got shopping, restaurants and of course lots of space to explore outside!

Rangeley, in Franklin County, is one of the most quintessential inland Maine towns.

Is it the incredible views and close proximity to Saddleback Mountain that makes it so special?

Or places like Cascade Stream, perfect for exploring the deep, dark woods?

It's impossible to pinpoint what makes it so special, but you'll love the nature and early morning views like this.

As well as the call of the loons that echo off of Rangeley Lake.

As the highest town in Maine, you won't be surprised that one of the best views in the area is from the "Height of Land."

The phrase "height of land" refers to the division between two watersheds.

Off of Route 17 near Rangeley, this is a picture taker's paradise that features an incredible view of Mooselookmeguntic Lake.

For a fun trip, plan on staying overnight at the Rangeley Lakes Resort, on the Eastern shore of Rangeley Lake.

With a pool, sauna and game room you might want to just hide out here instead of exploring! And, best of all, pets are allowed in these cozy cabins as well! Visit them at: 2222 Main Street in Rangely / (207) 864-3880.

You'll also want to make sure to incorporate a trip to Angel Falls.

The 90' plunging falls come from the Mountain Brook and take about 30 minutes to reach on the (almost) mile-long trail.

Rangeley is located exactly halfway between the North Pole and the Equator, causing some people to believe that the town gives off mystical vibes.

We recommend you spend the day outdoors, then head to Inner Eye Coffee Shop to finish out the day.

Grab an espresso and sit at one of the window stools for a great view of Main Street. Make sure to try the strudel as well - theirs was voted best at the Oktoberfest Brat & Strudel Contest last year. You'll find them at 2487 Main Street, Rangeley / (207) 864-5100

And, to make a real treat of the visit, head to the Rangeley Inn & Tavern for dinner.

Order yourself a Rustler's Rib-eye with roasted garlic, asparagus, and fingerling potatoes.

Then, hope that Rangeley's height will somehow help you burn off that meal!

Another great place to explore the outdoors is located just outside of Portland. Click here to find out what it is!
