Being in Maine is a vacation all its own, but every so often you want to take a vacation from the vacation. Is that a thing? We hope so! The good news is that Maine isn't called Vacationland for nothing. The next time you want to do something special, but aren't looking to leave the state consider taking a weekend away in your own backyard with these weekend trips to take in Maine.

1. Take a roadside attraction road trip.

2. Escape to Rangeley State Park.

Rangeley is one of the most beautiful state parks in the state and it's also one of the most mysterious. It sits on the exact halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole, causing some people to say it has a strange magnetic pull. Whether the pull you feel is due to mystical forces or simply the awesome beauty of the area, we think you'll be coming back every summer.

3, Go antiquing in Maine's most shoppable town.

Wells might have some great beaches, but once you've reached peak relaxation it's time to hit the shops! 4. Take a cruise to a Maine island.

5. Visit New England's only oceanfront amusement park.

Old Orchard Beach has been the playground for well-heeled travelers since the 1800s. Today, visitors can enjoy the many local motels, while also spending night at Palace Playland. Ride the rides, play the games and make sure to get yourself some pier fries!

6. Stay in a yurt!
