The Small Town In Louisiana That’s One Of The Coolest In The U.S.

Covington, Louisiana, is a charming small town with rich history, local events, and unique shops.

Small town life is great. Local shops, friendly neighbors, and that feeling that everyone knows your name. We've got a lot of awesome little towns in Louisiana, but there's one that stands out from the rest. Let's take a look!

Just north of New Orleans you'll find Covington, one of the coolest small towns in the state.

Founded in 1813, Covington has a lot of history.

The town was originally named Wharton, after its founder, John Wharton Collins. The city was formally incorporated in 1816 and renamed Covington. There are conflicting stories as to how the city got its name. One theory is that the city was named after General Leonard Covington, a hero of the War of 1812. Another theory is that it was named to honor Blue Grass whiskey, which is made in Covington, Kentucky.

The Bogue Falaya Park is a great place to sit and relax (and let the kids play).

With beautiful views of the Bogue Falaya River.

Block party season is March through October, and the city goes all out.

The Columbia Street Block party is held on the last Friday of each month. From 6:30pm-9:30pm there's live music, food, and a classic car show. Many shops, restaurants, and art galleries stay open for the event. Great fun for the whole family!

Every Thursday in April there's a FREE live concert!

Rockin' the Rails is from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Covington Trailhead is a great community event.

The downtown area has lots of cool shops that double as little pieces of history.

Like H. J. Smith and sons, part general store part museum. Opened in 1876, it's still run by the same family. It's Covington's own little time capsule and you should check it out next time you're in the area.

Lee Lane has a ton of charming boutiques, antique stores and restaurants that will keep you busy for hours.

And there's also a giant Ronald Reagan statue.

It's the largest in the country.

So next time you're on the north shore, spend some time exploring Covington.

It's a beautiful and charming city!
