BBQ gets a summertime reputation, but we all know good Louisiana BBQ like baby back ribs is meant to be enjoyed year-round. Although Louisiana may not be known for BBQ, that doesn't stop these talented pitmasters from serving some of the best BBQ in Louisiana. Gas up the car, because this road trip will take you to some of the best hole-in-the-wall BBQ joints in Louisiana.
To keep the road trip at a reasonable length, we've limited the area to the Greater Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.
But we are well aware there are delicious BBQ joints peppered all around the state, so stay tuned for a part two where we include even more amazing BBQ.
1. Couyon’s BBQ
Our first stop takes us to Couyon's, a favorite over in Port Allen that's been serving delicious BBQ since 2009. This is where Cajun flavors combine with Southern Texas BBQ for a flavor profile that'll make your taste buds explode!
2. East Gate Barbecue
Next up, we head south down to Morgan City, where East Gate Barbecue resides. All of their BBQ is cooked on either a wood-burning grill or a smoke tower, giving off those beautiful smoke rings to the meat. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here, but the ribs are a fan favorite for sure. Get a closer look at how East Gate Bar B Que does their thing:
3. Buy U BBQ
By this point in the trip, you may need to fill up, and luckily at Buy U BBQ, you can fill up your tank and your tummy. Located within a gas station, don't let the exterior fool you, some of the best BBQ in Houma is hiding within these walls.
4. Bar-B-Que Station #2
There are actually three Bar-B-Que Stations, #1 is in Independence, #2 is in Hammond, and #3 recently opened in Covington. The Hammond location is the easiest one to visit on this road trip, but no matter which one you go to, you’ll be treated to some finger-licking-good BBQ.
5. Waynes Barbecue
Our final stop on this delicious road trip takes us to Livingston, home to Wayne’s Barbecue. BBQ is only as good as the sides you pair it with, and at Wayne's, the sides were every bit as good as the main event. Visitors were sure to come hungry, because the portions were very generous! (Editor's Note: Unfortunately, Wayne's Barbecue is no longer in business.)
