10 Reasons Why Louisiana Is The Most Underrated State In The U.S.

People around the country don't always show great respect to the Southeast, and Louisiana in particular has certainly taken some beatings over the years. But the truth is, we have so much to be proud of in this great state. Here are some of the reasons why Louisiana is the most underrated state in the country.

1. We know how to handle natural disasters.

As these disasters become more common around the country, people in Louisiana have honed their skills of search and rescue and built strong communities that can weather the storms. After more than 86 recorded storms, we’re always getting better at creating resilient communities and minimizing harm. I guess you could say in Louisiana, we can always find the rainbow in the rain.

2. Our communities were the anchors of the entire French Louisiana territory.

This was a $15 million purchase that resulted in the birth of 13 more states into our union.

3. No one celebrates football the way we do.

When the Saints won the Superbowl, it was hands down one of the most legendary parties of all time (and nothing got burned, might I add…)

4. And if it wasn’t for Louisiana, the history of American music just wouldn’t be the same.

From Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino and Jimmie Davis all the way to modern legends like Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, and The Funky Meters, no one produces amazing music the way we do down here in Louisiana. It’s really something special.

5. For history buffs, there’s no better place in the country to be immersed in well preserved architecture and beloved museums.

From the ancient ruins at Poverty Point to one of the largest collections of Nationally Registered Historic Places in the country, there is truly something for every history lover in our state.

6. We’ve got some of the best places to fish and hunt in the entire country.

There’s a reason we have Sportsman’s Paradise on all of our license plates—for decades now Louisiana has been one of the go-to destinations for wranglers and hunters of every stripe. The plentiful marshes and deltas here are teeming with wildlife, including all of the most popular species of bass.

7. If it wasn’t for us, food probably wouldn’t be as flavorful—or as artful.

Some of the most influential chefs in America---Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse to name a couple, hail from Louisiana and have helped to spread our delicious cuisine all around this great nation.

8. We basically invented the American restaurant, including standards for fine dining service.

Some of the oldest family operated restaurants and bars in the entire United States are found in New Orleans, including the legendary Antoine’s and Commander’s Palace.

9. People just don’t understand how beautiful the swamp is.

Gorgeous and swamp aren’t usually two words you hear put together very often—but it’s completely true. The swamp is one of the unique treasures of the United States—and it’s best explored by boat.

10. Even though some people think of Louisiana as backwards, we’ve got some things well figured out.

What we lack in overall wealth we make up for in kindness, creativity, and determination—and oh yeah, great food, awesome music and a zest for life.
