Previously, we did an article on the richest counties in the state, and that left some people wondering just the opposite - what are the poorest counties in Iowa? The U.S. Census Bureau found that these 10 counties are the poorest based on median household income.
1. Decatur County
Decatur County Median Household Income: $36,326. Cities include: Leon, Lamoni, and Decatur City.
2. Appanoose County

Cities include: Centerville, Moravia, and Plano.
3. Wayne County
Wayne County Median Household Income: $40,024.
Cities include: Corydon, Humeston, and Allerton.
4. Wapello County
Wapello County Median Household Income: $41,425.
Cities include: Ottumwa, Eldon, and Eddyville.
5. Webster County
Webster County Median Household Income: $41,624.
Cities include: Fort Dodge, Gowrie, and Lehigh.
6. Monona County
Monona County Median Household Income: $42,025.
Cities include: Onawa, Mapleton, and Moorhead.
8. Des Moines County
Des Moines County Median Household Income: $42,451.
Cities include: Burlington, Danville, and Mediapolis.
9. Page County
Page County Median Household Income: $43,010.
Cities include: Clarinda, Shenandoah, and College Springs.
10. Clarke County
Clarke County Median Household Income: $43,216.
Cities include: Osceola, Woodburn, and Murray.
