With Beaches, Live Music, and Seasonal Festivals, There’s Nothing Like a Summer Weekend in This Indiana Town
Portage, Indiana, is a charming beach town known for its vibrant summer activities and strong sense of community.
When it comes to all the best small towns in Indiana, where does one even begin? After all, there are plenty — we definitely have no shortage of adorable towns worthy of your attention. But I'd like to take a moment to appreciate a little town that's nothing short of the perfect summertime paradise. There's always something going on somewhere, and during the warmer months, the whole place comes to life like never before! Check out the exciting beach town known as Portage: one of the downright best summer towns in Indiana.
Portage is located in Porter County, right on the border with Lake County. And Lake County is an appropriate moniker — this little town is a hidden gem of an Indiana beach town, and I love it. There's a strong sense of community here, and during the "dog days" of summer, you'll find there are plenty of fun things to do around here.
I'd even go as far as to say there ARE no "dog days" here ... nah, it's nothing but good times from here on out! Welcome to Portage.
Indiana may be landlocked, but it's home to several beach towns, including this one. The Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk is by far one of the best hidden gem beaches in Indiana. You might want to spend some time exploring it!
There's always something going on around here, too, be it a summer festival or any one of the numerous Live Summer Music Series performances you'll find are going on every Tuesday. And, you can attend some parades (like the annual July 4th parade), hike some gorgeous trails, and simply relax within this wonderful little town.
Should you decide you'd like to stay a while, no worries — there are some delightful vacation home rentals in Portage, Indiana, as well as some well-known hotel chains. And should you get hungry, there are also many cafes, restaurants, and eateries around here that you won't find anywhere else. I personally recommend Tate's Place, a little mom-and-pop café serving up the best breakfast you've ever had.
No matter what you decide to do, you're sure to fall in love with this adorable Indiana town.
