This Indiana Donut Trail Is The Most Delicious Road Trip You’ll Ever Take

Discover the Indiana Donut Trail, a road trip featuring eight standout donut shops across the state.

When you think of breakfast foods, you can't help but think of donuts. Whether eaten first thing in the morning, for dessert, or a for a midday (or midnight!) snack, there's just something undeniably delightful about a freshly baked donut. And lucky for us Hoosiers, there are plenty of amazing donut places all over the state. We've shared our favorite donut shops in Indiana before, but if you're looking for a little adventure, we've created an Indiana road trip to eight stand-out donut spots. Gas up the car, bring your appetite, and set out on our Indiana Donut Trail!

1. Munster Donut

Our Indiana Donut Trail kicks off in good, old Munster, IN. This humble little donut shop may not look like much on the outside, but we all know it's what's on the inside that counts (especially when talking about Munster Donut's jelly-filled wonders.) This popular bakery has a strong command of the classics, but is also known for its unique "donut on a stick" creations. Follow them on Facebook for daily specials and deals.

2. Rise n' Roll Bakery

Rise n' Roll consistently tops the "best donuts in Indiana" lists -- and it's easy to see why. While all of their donuts are freshly made and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, they're particularly famous for their "Amish crack" donut, also known as the caramel cinnamon donut. Do yourself a favor and order a dozen -- they'll disappear fast!

3. Tom's Donuts

Tom's Donuts is a donut shop that many Hoosiers will drive hours to visit. You'll find a huge variety of old-fashioned, homemade donuts here, but their filled donuts are particularly delightful. If you want to make a meal of it, the Angola location has a Tom's Coney Connection next door, and the cheese coneys are legendary. Follow Tom's Donuts on Facebook for daily specials and deals.

4. Heyerly's Bakery

Heyerly's Bakery is proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. This unassuming little bakery boasts some of the very best homemade donuts in the state -- the apple fritters are particularly divine. Since changing owners in 2019, Heyerly's has upped its bakery game, selling custom cakes and cookies that are true works of (edible) art.

5. Concannon's Bakery - Muncie

The legendary Concannon's Bakery boasts three entire display cases of just donuts! From classic chocolate filled to more experimental (think: bacon topped) varieties, you'll satisfy any craving at this Indiana bakery. (However, if you ask us, the simple glazed donut may just be the best thing on the menu!) Follow Concannon's Bakery on Facebook for daily specials and deals.

6. Tim's Bakery

Local fans claim this donut shop will ruin you for life: once you go to Tim's , other donuts just won't do! Favorites here include the blueberry cake donut, long johns, apple fritters, and the glazed yeast donuts.

7. Schmidt Bakery

If you've never had a "cherry thing-a-ling" from Schmidt's, you're missing out! This infamous donut is only sold on President's Day, but well worth the wait! Their other donuts and treats are equally impressive, so give them a try the other 364 days of the year. Follow Schmidt's on Facebook for daily specials and deals.

8. H & R Bakery

With late night hours (you can get donuts at midnight!) and phenomenal flavors, this donut shop is a must visit. Try their caramel iced long johns or glazed varieties for a sinfully decadent sweet treat! Follow H & R Bakery on Facebook for more information.

9. Jeff's Bakery

Rumor has it Jeff's Bakery can convert even donut haters (is there even such a thing?!) into believers. You don't have to convince us: Jeff's has incredible custard filled donuts, apple fritters, peanut butter and jelly donuts, and even donut holes. We'll take one of each, please.
