Most people might not be aware that there are quite a few abandoned towns across Indiana, better known as ghost towns. While many of these abandoned places in Indiana are pretty harmless, most have history there that can be quite fascinating to learn. However, there is one Indiana ghost town people tend to shy away from specifically. Why? This ghost town is rumored to be haunted, and not by the friendly type of ghosts. Recognized as the creepiest abandoned town in Indiana, take a look at the spooky town of Barbersville.
Barbersville was once located within Jefferson County, Indiana, and was settled in the early 1800s.
Nothing exists of the town today, save for this sign and some remains of former buildings, scattered throughout the woods.
In the late 1880s, the population grossed 100 residents, and the town had its own post office, schoolhouse, and even a general store.
There is talk that Barbersville, Indiana played a significant part in the Underground Railroad, though its exact role is unknown.
What we do know is that by 1915, this town was abandoned and left to decay and decompose.
