You’ll Love A Trip To Hawaii’s Longest Pier That Stretches Infinitely Into The Sea

Along the 750 miles of striking coastline across the Hawaiian Islands, you will find countless incredible piers — from recreational hangouts to research facilities. Surprisingly, the longest pier in the Aloha State is found on one of the smallest of Hawaii's main islands. The Hawaiian town of Kaunakakai is home to approximately 3,400 residents, and back when sugar and pineapple exports were huge Hawaiian industries, was a major port town. It is in this small community stuck in time where you will find the state's longest pier. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Nestled along Molokai’s southern shore, Kaunakakai Harbor is home to the state’s longest pier, stretching 1,900 feet into the Pacific Ocean, well past the reef.

This commercial and recreational harbor is home to 29 boat slips and mooring spaces, two docks, and a boat launching ramp. It is also the docking spot of the Molokai Princess, the passenger ferry that travels between Maui and Molokai.

On a leisurely afternoon, stroll down to the end of the pier for some serenity. Here, you will be surrounded by the ocean breeze, local fishermen, and the sound of boats slowly jetting out of the harbor.

Locals use the pier for fishing, and you will also find a small swimming area on the western side of the wharf. Only accessible via a climb down some boulders, it is supposedly not used often.

It’s the views from the pier, however, that are truly remarkable.

There’s little better than catching a signature Hawaiian sunrise from the Kaunakakai Pier…
