The Charming Town In Georgia That Appears As Though It Was Ripped From A Norman Rockwell Painting
">Norman Rockwell was born in New York City and spent much of his life in New England. He's closely associated with the northeastern U.S., which makes it seem pretty unlikely that we'd have Norman Rockwell towns in Georgia. Sure, even our northernmost climes aren't going to get as much snow as you'd see in Vermont or Massachusetts, and we may have entirely different architectural styles than the quaint white clapboard churches that are so closely associated with the northeast. But that doesn't mean we don't have homey, charming towns that are filled with history and a strong sense of community. One town that is pretty Norman Rockwellesque in Georgia is the city of Americus. Check it out:
Americus feels like something of a step back in time. The downtown area is filled with beautiful architecture.
Though this is among the most sizable cities in southwest Georgia, it has a small-town feel that makes it easy to fall in love with the area.
There are many events and festivals in Americus held throughout the year, and there's a strong sense of community here.
One of my favorite "throwback" activities in Americus is taking a ride on the SAM Shortline train.
Riding a train is such a great way to admire the scenery and feel a bit of nostalgia for times gone by! The SAM Shortline has routes through Americus and several surrounding towns.
A walk through town will show off the many beautiful historic homes here.
From the wraparound porches to the gingerbread house trims, there's nothing like the beauty of old Southern homes.
Sure, it may not be exactly like the snow-covered New England scenes in Norman Rockwell's paintings, but for those of us that love Americus, this place is ripped straight out of an old-timey, idyllic painting nonetheless.
Next time you're looking for a Norman Rockwellesque town in Georgia, check out Americus.
