There is nothing like a good road trip in Florida. Just pack up the car with all of your road trip essentials, and hit the open road. And while some adventurers need to plan everything out to a T, others prefer more of a spontaneous trip. If you can relate to the latter, then this spontaneous road trip through Florida is a perfect weekend adventure. We have a total of six stops along the way, plus overnight accommodation, three for each day of the weekend. 1. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park
We’re kicking off this road trip with a stop at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, famous for its live mermaid shows. Watch the enchanting underwater performances, take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear spring, and enjoy a scenic kayak trip down the Weeki Wachee River. This park offers a magical and nostalgic experience.
2. Mount Dora, FL
Next up, we have some exploration in the charming town of Mount Dora, Florida, known for its antique shops, art galleries, and scenic lake views. Stroll through the historic downtown area, visit the Modernism Museum, and enjoy a leisurely boat tour on Lake Dora. Don’t miss the Renninger's Antique Center for a treasure trove of vintage finds.
3. Fish Camp Lake Eustis
You’ve probably worked up an appetite, right? Let’s stop at the local favorite Fish Camp Lake Eustis for a tasty bite and some waterfront views. The restaurant at Fish Camp Lake Eustis offers a casual, laid-back atmosphere that perfectly complements its lakeside setting. With both indoor and outdoor seating options, guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the stunning views of Lake Eustis. Plus, the food is as fresh and delicious as it gets!
4. "The Art House" Airbnb
It’s time to rest for the night, so we’ve found you the perfect accommodation nearby. What’s known as The Art House on Airbnb, this three bedroom, two and a half bath house can fit up to eight guests comfortably. The outdoor fire pit area is a great place to unwind for the night.
5. Rock Springs Run Wildlife Management Area
Good morning! Who’s ready for a little bit of kayaking? Rock Springs Run Wildlife Management Area, located in Central Florida, spans over 14,000 acres of diverse natural habitats including pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and freshwater marshes. It is renowned for its pristine springs, such as Rock Springs and Wekiwa Springs. The area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, and wildlife viewing.
6. DeLand, FL
As we travel onward, we’ll be stopping by another charming small town, DeLand, Florida. Home to Stetson University, the city combines small-town charm with a lively atmosphere. Visitors can explore unique boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants along Woodland Boulevard. DeLand boasts beautiful parks, including the award-winning DeLeon Springs State Park.
7. Norwood's Restaurant & Treehouse Bar
And our final stop on this spontaneous road trip through Central Florida is another beloved eatery, Norwood’s Treehouse Restaurant & Bar. Situated in a treehouse-like structure with views of the surrounding lush landscape, the restaurant specializes in fresh seafood and Southern cuisine. Guests can enjoy dishes like shrimp and grits, crab cakes, and grilled fish while savoring the rustic ambiance.
