Day three in Orlando was the kind of finale that didn't just quietly summarize the entire experience, but instead sent it off with fireworks. Not literally. But this last chapter leaned hard into the unexpected, trading roller coasters and resort queues for mud-splattered thrills, glassy lakes, and a side of Central Florida not too many people get to see. It was also the day plans shifted in real time, and that pivot turned out to be a blessing in disguise, leading us straight to one of the most memorable lunches of the trip.
In case you missed our first two adventures, we'll fill you in. Check our Day 1 Orlando and Day 2 Orlando. My podcast host, Sara, and I visited Orlando for a three-day adventure filled with delicious, unexpected food, fantastic history and museums, and some under-the-radar local gems.

Off-Roading at Revolution Adventures in Clermont
Photo by Marisa & Sara - Only In Your State
The morning kicked off just outside Orlando at Revolution Adventures in Clermont, where 230 acres of Florida countryside feel a world away from theme park gates. This was off-road Florida at its best, and the amphibious vehicle Mucky Duck experience wasted no time delivering. With a guide leading the way, we tore through muddy trails, splashed across shallow water crossings, and laughed our way through a ride that was equal parts adrenaline rush and pure comedy. There’s something deeply satisfying about leaning into the messiness of it all, feeling the mud spray, gripping the wheel, and realizing how much fun it is to start your day doing something that feels a little unhinged in the best possible way.

This side of Central Florida surprises many people, especially those who only associate the region with polished attractions. What stood out most was how accessible it felt, welcoming beginners while still delivering enough excitement to keep seasoned thrill-seekers grinning the entire time.
Braving the Open Water at Catboat Clermont

From dirt to water, the day was supposed to shift gears with Catboat Clermont on the Clermont Chain of Lakes. The idea alone is enough to sell it: your own personal catamaran, no boating license required, cruising across open water, wetlands, and cypress-lined passages at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. It’s part jungle cruise, part freedom fantasy, and when conditions are right, it’s an unforgettable way to see Florida from a different angle. The weather, however, had other plans.

What started as a fun, breezy outing quickly turned into a much colder adventure than expected, and the ride back was…bracing, to put it mildly. Still, even with the chill, there was something special about being out on the water, surrounded by quiet stretches of lake and wild Florida scenery that most visitors never experience.
Lunch to Warm Us Up at TwentyPho Hour

That unexpected pivot after Catboats ended up reshaping the rest of the day in the best way possible. Instead of pushing on as planned, we headed to TwentyPho Hour, and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. This MICHELIN-recommended 2D noodle bar is one of those places that feels instantly iconic.

The black-and-white, graphic interior makes it look like you’ve stepped straight into a comic book, while the fast-casual menu delivers deeply comforting Asian-inspired dishes that hit especially hard after a cold, windblown boat ride. It was a reminder that Orlando’s food scene is constantly evolving, playful, and creative, with spots that feel just as immersive as any attraction.
What We Regret Missing Out On
The afternoon included a near-miss with historic downtown Winter Garden, one of those charming, walkable areas that seems tailor-made for slow exploration, local shops, and standout eats. Missing out on Winter Garden and Pammie’s Sammies stung a little, but it also gave us a reason to come back. Sometimes the places you don’t quite get to experience become part of the story too, quietly bookmarking a future trip.
A Night in at Villatel Orlando

The day and the Orlando chapter wrapped up at Villatel Orlando Resort, where the vibe shifted fully into festive mode. Their Hallowee-kends programming leaned into spooky-season fun without ever tipping into overwhelming territory. From the haunted Thrillatel villa experience to Flick-Or-Treat movie night, complete with candy and classic Halloween nostalgia, it felt playful, immersive, and genuinely fun for all ages. Villatel has a knack for blending hospitality with themed entertainment in a way that feels intentional rather than chaotic, creating an environment where you can participate as much or as little as you want.
An End to the Ultimate Orlando Experience
Looking back, this itinerary captured a completely different side of Orlando. Muddy trails in the morning, cold wind on open water, comic-book noodles at lunch, historic streets just out of reach, and an immersive resort finale at night. Orlando isn’t one experience; it’s many, layered together in ways that reward curiosity and flexibility. This trip was proof that when plans change, and you lean into the unexpected, you often end up with the best stories.
As we wrap up this Orlando series on States of Discovery, it’s a reminder to seek out what surprises you, wherever you travel. Huge thanks to Visit Orlando and Gabby McNamara for helping make this experience possible, and stay tuned for what’s next as we continue uncovering the many sides of the places we think we already know.
