Many people don't know that Connecticut is home to the largest collection of British art outside of the United Kingdom. This museum in New Haven is home to more than 2,000 works of art and is open to the public free of charge. It's a beautiful museum that's a perfect free and educational day trip for art lovers.

This world-class museum not only houses works of art, it's also a work of art in itself. The museum opened to the public in 1977 and was the first American museum to have retail shops incorporated in its design.

The museum was the brainchild of Louis Kahn, a famous American architect. It was his final creation before his death.
