Tiny Pomfret, Connecticut Is A Time Capsule Town That’s Irresistibly Charming And Nostalgic
Do you ever feel like modern life is just a bit too chaotic? I love food delivery apps, QR codes, and all the other wonders of modern technology, but it can also feel really stressful to have all the knowledge of the world at your fingertips at all times. Being so connected is ever-so-convenient, but needless to say, it can also be quite draining. If you ever feel like you need some time away from it all, why not escape to one of the peaceful small towns in Connecticut? They lack the amenities of our bigger cities, but they also lack all the hustle and bustle, and there's certainly something to be said about the tranquility of a town that others might dismiss as boring. For peace and quiet in the Nutmeg State, few better places are better than our northeast corner, nicknamed the Quiet Corner for its abundance of small towns and lack of overly lively activity. One of the most charming towns here is the little town of Pomfret, and it's perfect for a small-town getaway in Connecticut. Check it out:
Pomfret is a small town of a little over 4,200. It's located in Windham County and was settled back in 1686, making it one of the oldest towns in Connecticut.
As you can see, this place is absolutely magnificent in the fall!
Even the dreary days of winter manage to be quite lovely in Pomfret, as well.
The abundance of natural areas here makes this an all-weather destination that's perfect for a visit in summer or spring, too.
Mashamoquet Brook State Park, pictured above, is a 917-acre preserve with trails, green space, and so much room to explore.
Another great place for a stroll is the Connecticut Audubon Society's Center at Pomfret.
This beautiful preserve is a great spot for bird-watching or just immersing yourself into nature.
If you're the type that likes a scenic drive, you'll be happy to know Route 244 runs right to Pomfret and it's one of the most beautiful roads in the state.
Pastoral scenery doesn't come much prettier than this.
This is a quiet town where life is still taken a little bit slower.
If you're looking for a remote escape for a small town weekend getaway in Connecticut, Pomfret is a wonderful option.
