Burlington, Connecticut looks like any other small New England town. Old architecture, charming storefronts, and lots of natural beauty are what defines this place. But this scenic hill town is also said to be home to a number of ghosts, and locals swear by it. People are often surprised to find that this place has more than one haunting going on at any given time, and it's only 30 square miles in size. A daytime visit to Burlington, Connecticut, would certainly be a picture-perfect escape, but it's a totally different story at night. This creepy small town in Connecticut is definitely bound to give you the heebie-jeebies.
Burlington can be hauntingly beautiful and eerily quiet. But it's not just the feeling that there are ghosts, it's the actual sightings.
Tory Prison is a small but historic structure that sits beside a narrow road. People have reported seeing the ghosts of British soldiers in chains as well as hearing moans echoing from the structure.
The Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery is unusual in that a combination of weathering and vandalism has left the land mostly bare. But one tombstone has outlasted the others; it belongs to the infamous ghost of the Green Lady herself, Elizabeth Palmiter. The famous drowned woman is said to haunt these grounds, followed around for eternity by a green mist.
Though the entrance looks like a mere pile of stones, the bodies buried underneath are restless. The nearby Lampson Corner Cemetery also has ghostly sightings, as well as reports of strange mists and floating orbs. Yikes!
The most famous story to come out of Lampson is the young man standing atop the hill. A hiker once asked him for the time, but the young man promptly disappeared. When the hiker followed after him, there was no trace. He simply had not been there.
No place is really safe from sightings, though. A distant figure at the dam, a curious fog at the church, something moving out of the corner of your eye; in a town this old, there are too many uncovered secrets to count - and probably even more ghosts than secrets.
Even with the ghosts and all, you really can't deny the beauty of this place! So, what do you say? Will you explore this ghost-riddled town? If you think Burlington, Connecticut has ghosts, check out the village of Dudleytown. It's under a deadly curse, and that might be even scarier.
