One Of America’s Most Beautiful Spring Drives Is Located Right Here In Colorado

The San Juan Skyway in Colorado is a 236-mile scenic byway known for its breathtaking views and historic significance.

When the warm weather months are in full bloom here in the Centennial State, it means that's the time to get out and walk, hike, bike, or drive! If a colorful road trip sounds like a day well spent, you're in luck, because this famous Colorado highway is considered one of the best roads not only in the state but in the entire country. Come along as we take you step-by-step along one of the most scenic drives in Colorado.

Winding through the scenic San Juan Mountains is that of its namesake San Juan Skyway.

It is a 236-mile byway that is considered by many to be Colorado's premier scenic and historic byway.

It was also at one time named one of "America's Best Spring Drives" by Travel + Leisure Magazine.

The San Juan Skyway climbs as high as 10,910 feet in elevation, making for breathtaking views (and beautiful photo ops).

As you traverse along the byway you'll pass through several charming towns.

Among them are Ouray and Durango, just to name a few.

The route also houses the aptly named Million Dollar Highway.

In case you missed one of our previous feature articles, the Million Dollar Highway is beautiful but dangerous, so drive slow and safe.

The San Juan Skyway showcases Colorado's vibrant spring colors better than anywhere else!

It really is one of the most stunning Colorado drives.

Driving along it is an adventure on its own.

But we highly recommend getting out of the car to enjoy the attractions in the area, including Mesa Verde and luxurious Dunton Hot Springs!

Here's a handy map to help get you started!

If you’re ever doing a search for “scenic drives near me,” the San Juan Skyway is sure to appear at the top of the list!
