The Spooky Small Town Of Calico Rock In Arkansas Could Be Right Out Of A Horror Movie
Calico Rock in Arkansas is unique for having a ghost town, East Calico Rock, within its city limits.
Calico Rock isn’t spooky at all. This little town is actually a homey, friendly little town. It’s a fantastic place to live, and an awesome place to visit. There is something within the city limits, however, that sets Calico Rock apart from all the other towns in Arkansas, even from all the towns in America. In all of these United States, Calico Rock is the only town that has a ghost town located entirely within its city limits. While East Calico Rock, also called the Peppersauce Ghost Town, isn’t all that creepy either, I sure wouldn’t want to be chased through it by a chainsaw-wielding maniac.
Here’s where I need you to suspend your disbelief for a moment. Imagine you’re doing a walking tour of East Calico Rock alone when dark falls. Suddenly your skin is covered in goosebumps, and you’re not sure exactly why. Moments ago this place was full of light and history, but now it’s full of ominous darkness, a spine-tingling emptiness, seemingly teeming with the ghosts of a once-bustling boomtown. You wonder if the ghosts are angry that the town moved away from them if they wish they could still visit the businesses that line the streets.
I don’t know about you, but I wish Hollywood would do a movie set in East Calico Rock. They could certainly film a movie there, with a silvery tint overlaid on the buildings that once housed families, general stores, and family-run businesses. Horror overlaid on the echoes of a lost past. Could this really be the scariest town in Arkansas?
