Mooresville is located in Limestone County, Alabama. With a population of less than 100, it's also one of the tiniest small towns in Alabama.
Incorporated in 1818, this tiny town is quite historic. The reason is the fact that it's older than Alabama, which didn't officially become a state until 1819. Now, you may be wondering what are some of the things to do in Mooresville, Alabama. Well, it's a fantastic place for history buffs to spend an afternoon, as Mooresville is one of the most historic towns in Alabama. In fact, the whole town is included on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of its most historic buildings is its post office (pictured below), which was built around 1840, making it Alabama's oldest operational post office. Just imagine dropping off your mail or buying stamps at such a historic post office!
Another historic building in Mooresville is its old Brick Church, which was built in 1839. Even though regular worship services haven't taken place at this church since the 1960s, it's still used for events and photo ops.
While in town, you'll also want to visit the Stagecoach Inn and Tavern. This historic building, built prior to 1825, was the original location of Mooresville's post office. It's also a former tenant house and an antique, glass, and china repair shop. The historic Stagecoach Inn and Tavern is currently operated as a museum and Mooresville's official town hall.
In addition to Mooresville's great history, its unforgettable charm also attracts numerous visitors each year. Beautiful historic homes, white picket fences, lovely gardens, and tree-shaded streets are just a few of the town's charming characteristics that'll take you back in time during your day trip.
Before leaving Mooresville, you'll want to stop by Lyla's Little House, a candy and curiosity shop that is housed inside a quaint white cottage that has colorful shutters and door trim.
