1. Winfield

Located in Marion County, Winfield was originally called "Needmore" and was once the Chickasaw Indian domain. Winfield has a population of 4,684.

2. Union Springs

Union Springs is the county seat of Bullock County and exemplifies Southern history, architecture and charm. This small historic town has a population of 3,791.

3. Red Bay

Founded in 1907, and located in Franklin County, Red Bay was named for the red clay and bay trees. It has a population of 3,153.

4. Childersburg

Dating back to 1540, Childersburg is supposedly the oldest continually occupied city in America. This historic town is located in Talladega County and has a population of 5,124.

5. Fayette

Fayette was incorporated in 1821 and originally known as "La Fayette." It's the county seat of Fayette County and has a population of 4,550.

6. Jackson

Jackson, founded in 1816, is located in Clarke County and has four sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These sites include the following: Jackson Historic District, Clarke Mills, Doit W. McClellan Lustron House and the J. P. McKee Lustron House. Jackson has a population of 5,080.

7. Hazel Green

Hazel Green, located in Madison County, got its name from the vibrant green hazel bushes growing along the road. Hazel Green has a population of 3,630.

8. Columbiana

Columbiana is the county seat of Shelby County and has a population of 4,203. Its motto is "Embracing The Future, While Preserving The Past."

9. Haleyville

Haleyville, located in Winston County, is where the first 9-1-1 emergency call was made, which took place on February 16, 1968. Haleyville has a population of 4,103.

10. Greensboro

Greensboro is the county seat of Hale County and has a population of 2,435. There are several sites on the National Register of Historic Places located in or near Greensboro, some of which include the following: Greensboro Historic District, Magnolia Grove and the Payne House.

11. Bayou La Batre

Bayou La Batre, located in Mobile County, is a fishing village that has a seafood-processing harbor for both fishing boats and shrimp boats. This fishing village has been featured in television documentaries and blockbuster films, including "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and "Forrest Gump." Bayou La Batre has a population of 2,659.

12. Centreville

Founded in 1823, and incorporated in 1832, Centreville is the county seat of Bibb County and has a population of 2,723. Centreville's historic district, which includes 20 buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

13. Bridgeport

Because of Bridgeport's location on both a rail line and the Tennessee River, it was an important site during the American Civil War. Bridgeport is located in Jackson County and has a population of 2,395.

14. Cordova

Located in Walker County, Cordova was originally a settlement on the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. This small Alabama town was incorporated in 1897 and has a population of 2,061.

15. Dadeville

Dadeville, the county seat of Tallapoosa County, was home to Alabama's first medical school (Graefenberg Medical Institute). The medical school closed at the start of the Civil War. Dadeville has a population of 3,194.
