From haunted cemeteries and scary hotels to terrifying restaurants and spooky houses, Alabama is filled with some of the most frightening places you'll ever set foot in. Recently, we highlighted 10 of the most haunted places in Alabama. They can be seen here. Today, we've mapped out a road trip featuring a few of our favorite haunted places. This road trip could easily be taken in a single weekend.
As you can see below, the total mileage for this haunted road trip is 725 miles, with an estimated drive time of 13 hours and 23 minutes. For step-by-step directions, you can view the actual Google map here. The route begins and ends at Selma's St. James Hotel, but you may begin anywhere you wish.
Now, let’s take a look at a few of Alabama's most haunted places that would be great to visit during a road trip.
1. St. James Hotel - Selma
Our first stop is the St. James Hotel, in Selma. According to several reports, the ghosts of famous outlaw Jesse James and his girlfriend Lucinda hang out here. Many guests have also reported barking sounds coming from the courtyard area, and the sounds of dogs running down the hallways. The strange thing is that no dog is ever present. It's assumed that this is the ghost of Jesse James' dog, which was his companion for many years. While this hotel is now permanently closed, you can still drive by and see where it is in the city.

2. Harrison Cemetery - Kinston
Our next stop is Harrison Cemetery, in Kinston. After all, no haunted road trip in Alabama is complete without a visit to a haunted cemetery, right? The most popular grave in Harrison Cemetery belongs to William "Grancer" Harrison - The Dancing Ghost of Grancer Harrison. Many people have reported seeing Grancer's spirit dance at his grave site, in addition to hearing him play his fiddle.

3. Fort Morgan - Gulf Shores
We've now arrived to Fort Morgan, in Gulf Shores. Fort Morgan isn't only a tourist destination. It's also a historic battle site where ghosts in Alabama tend to wander. During the early 1900s, a prisoner hung himself. Many people have reported hearing his cries during the late night hours. A woman who was murdered onsite has been seen wandering around, looking for her killer.

4. Gaines Ridge Dinner Club - Camden
Who doesn't get hungry during a road trip? Our next stop is the Gaines Ridge Dinner Club, in Camden. While at this restaurant, you might hear the constant screams of a woman and the unending cries of a baby. A woman's spirit floating past the windows might also catch your eye.

5. Gaineswood Plantation Home - Demopolis
We've now arrived to Gaineswood, a beautiful plantation home in Demopolis. Alabama is filled with many plantation homes, several of which are haunted. At Gaineswood, many visitors have reported hearing the sounds of a piano. The woman who cared for the original owner's children played musical instruments with them, and it's assumed that the piano playing is coming from her spirit.

6. Sloss Furnaces - Birmingham
Our final stop is Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. This National Historic Landmark is one of the most haunted places in Alabama. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, many workers experienced horrible deaths and reportedly haunt Sloss Furnaces today.
