The Little Library In Detroit That’s Unlike Any Other In America
Calling all bookworms and fans of Doctor Who, this story is one that will warm your hearts. We already know that you can find impressive and historic libraries all around America, but out in this one Michigan city is a community library that’s unlike any other in our country. Creating something new and exciting for everyone in the neighborhood, keep scrolling to find out what’s so special about this one little library.
Right in the city of Detroit, sitting on the corner of an empty lot is the TARDIS community library.
Only recently completed back in June, the incredible and unique little library took several months to create. Detroit's newest library was put together by local resident Dan Zemke, a bookworm himself, who wanted to add something special to his local area.
Those in the neighborhood can decide to either take a book or leave a book, with the TARDIS fitting roughly 140 books inside.
Taking longer to create than originally expected, the end result of Zemke's hard work is a almost 10-foot tall miniature library that weighs nearly a ton. Those who aren't familiar with the British TV show Doctor Who, the object that you see pictured here actually works as a time machine of sorts for the doctor in the series. The idea that the books are housed inside of something that's often referred to as a space ship plays on the fact that books have the power to bring us to other worlds.
Adding a little piece of whimsical character to the neighborhood, we hope the TARDIS library stays in Detroit forever.
Open up the doors to the little library and you'll find that a local artist has painted the inside to resemble a spacecraft. Pull back the space doors and you'll be able to look around at all of the books that have been donated to the TARDIS library. Hard to miss, you can find the TARDIS library on the corner of Vermont Street and West Warren Avenue in Detroit, Michigan!
