9 REI Products That I’m Excited to Try Out in Washington This Year

With these nine REI products, you'll be ready for a year of adventure.

The right gear can make all the difference during an outing. Whether camping, traveling, hiking, or even running or cycling around your home, poor-quality items can give you quite a headache and inconvenience you. REI is where I like to shop for myself and my family, and this year, my wishlist is pretty long. I thought I’d share some of the top REI products that I’m excited to try out in Washington this year. Are any of my products also on your must-have gear list?

1. Cotopaxi Cielo Rain Jacket

Is it possible to live in Washington and not have a good rain jacket? I’ve got my eye on this Cotopaxi jacket for several reasons. Not only do I love the Cotopaxi brand and many of its products, but this jacket provides complete water protection, including full seam taping. It is also breathable so you don’t feel sticky and uncomfortable if you are stuck in a storm. I also love its many color options and that it is made with recycled materials.

2. Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket

I will admit that I already own a Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket but on my last camping trip, I never got a chance to use it — my family fought over it. This year, I want to buy my very own Rumpl blanket that I don’t need to share. I love these blankets because they are extremely durable, waterproof, stainproof, and easy to clean. They feature staking loops and clips for hands-free use. Plus, they are made from plastic bottles and come in the coolest colors and designs. I’m a huge fan.

3. REI Co-op Trailmade Trekking Poles

This year, I have a lot of hiking trails on my bucket list. Some of these trails are a little harder than others and I can’t wait to make these trekking poles my companion on those challenging hikes. They are lightweight, easy to adjust, and feature EVA foam grips and nylon wrist straps. You won’t want to hit the trails without them.

4. MSR Evo Trail Snowshoes

There’s nothing quite like spending a winter day outdoors (it’s good for the mind and body!). One of my favorite winter activities is snowshoeing and these trail snowshoes have caught my eye. The simplicity of putting on these snowshoes is a feature I love and the stretch mesh bindings make them comfortable to wear no matter what footwear you choose.  Plus, the steel traction rails and brake bars help to keep you sturdy and upright as you trek through Washington’s winter wonderland.

5. Osprey Daylite Duffel 60

Whether camping, glamping, or even a simple overnight getaway, this Osprey duffel bag is perfect. It has multiple pockets to organize your belongings and you can carry the bag as a backpack, over the shoulder, or just by the strap. The handles are padded for easy carrying and I love the padded bottom which adds extra protection to your belongings.

6. Salomon Adv Skin 12 Hydration vest

I am a runner and have several half marathon races scheduled this upcoming year. I’ve been looking for a new hydration vest for these events and this vest from Salomon is at the top of my list. Included is two 500 mL soft flasks that slide right in the front pockets for easy access, and most importantly, they don’t flop around as you run. The vest is made of stretchy and supportive material, as well as compression laces on the side, ensuring pure comfort for even the longest runs.

7. Kelty Lowdown Chair

Here’s a little secret about me … I’m a camping chair snob. I need a chair where I can sit back, relax, and enjoy my time outdoors. I don’t want a chair that offers little support and comfort. I can’t wait to try the Kelty Lowdown Chair, which is durable and has a weight capacity of 350 pounds. It has a slight reclined design so you will actually feel like you are relaxing and the adjustable armrests allow you to customize your comfort. Plus, the padded roll-tote storage bag makes carrying this chair simple, something I greatly value in this type of product.

8. Smartwool Socks

My entire family owns multiple pairs of Smartwool socks and I feel like you can never have enough. This particular pair is perfect for hitting some of your favorite trails no matter the distance. They are made using merino wool and recycled nylon, and provide excellent moisture-wicking abilities. I love the crew fit as they provide just enough coverage of your feet and ankles regardless of the terrain.

9. Lantern Press National Parks Puzzle

This REI product combines two of my favorite things: puzzles and national parks. Puzzles are one of my favorite ways to relax and this large 1,000-piece puzzle will certainly help me unwind. Not to mention, the colorful images are going to excite my wanderlust. This national parks puzzle consists of 1,000 random-cut pieces on thick puzzle board. It’s a project you can do on your own or with some of your favorite people.
