Starting off in 2006 as a family compound, Rancho Pillow has evolved into a whimsical retreat for anyone looking to get away from it all and escape to someplace a bit different than your everyday motel.
Many of the guests are musicians looking for a change of pace to help inspire their songwriting (there's a recording studio on the property!), but anyone is welcome - the more, the merrier, says owner Sheila Youngblood.
There are five separate dwellings available for guests: four houses and one teepee. Pictured above is "The Love Shack," which has two bedrooms, two full baths, and even a washer and dryer!
The "Red House" is a 120 year-old, 2300 square-foot home full of character. It has a kitchen, living and dining room, two bedrooms with king beds and one with a queen bed and four bunk beds, and a washer and dryer.
This is the main gathering place, also known as "The Barn." It's three-stories tall, stamped with a vintage sign reading "Rancho Pillow Motel," and filled with funky decor from all over the world. It has a kitchen with high-end appliances, three bedrooms and two baths...
...and a 700 square-foot porch! Nights spent laughing, stargazing, dancing, singing, and connecting with others out here will create cherished memories you won't soon forget.
So if you're bored with the usual dinky, side-of-the-road motels, give Rancho Pillow a try. Very seldom are places of lodging the highlight of a trip, but that's exactly the case here.
