The Oldest Restaurant In Texas Has A Truly Incredible History
We have our fair share of historic restaurants in Texas, but one rises above all the rest: Scholz Garten in Austin, otherwise known as the oldest restaurant in the entire state (Stagecoach Inn in Salado used to own this title, but it is permanently closed, unfortunately). Scholz has been around since 1866, and its history is so rich that you can almost feel the years of memories made here over the years. If you’re looking for a restaurant with character, good food (both authentic German and down-home Texan), and a friendly, fun atmosphere, this is definitely the place for you.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nominate/
