Cupp's Drive Inn In Texas Hasn't Changed Since Opening In 1947

Drive-in restaurants and movie theaters are making an unprecedented comeback during these times of minimal contact with others, and luckily, Texas has plenty of both. Cupp’s Drive Inn in Waco has been around since the late 1940s, serving up the juiciest burgers, crispiest hand-battered onion rings, and other diner delicacies ever since. Nothing about the drive-in has changed much in decades, from the retro vibe to the scrumptious food and everything in-between.

Waco has changed quite a bit over the years, but it's oldest drive-in restaurant is frozen in time. Despite opening more than 70 years ago, Cupp's continues to serve the same good ol' fashioned diner food we know and love it for.

Today, the building remains unassuming at best -- but we wouldn't have it any other way. Both curbside service and inhouse dining are available, the former being the most traditional option. Classic cars are almost always parked outside en masse, so you can look forward to a free show!

The atmosphere may not get five stars, but we Texans know that isn't really important to begin with. Cupp's excels in the only area that matters: food.

Thick, juicy beef patties are topped with all the usual suspects, plus add-ons like cheese, chili, and bacon allowing each diner to build their own perfect bite. Upgrades, including fried eggs, jalapenos, and Texas toast instead of a regular bun, can be added for a small fee. You can even go sans-bread and just enjoy the mouthwatering meaty deliciousness.

Get your burger solo or as a basket meal with fries and a drink. Upgrade to hand-battered onion rings for an even more nostalgic treat.

While burgers are undoubtedly the star of the show, there are plenty of alternatives if you have a hankering for something different. Chicken-fried steak, chili dogs, and BLTs are just a few of the many scrumptious selections.

Breakfast is served daily from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Start the morning off right with omelettes, pancakes, hash browns, sausage, bacon, and -- of course -- coffee and orange juice.
