Jefferson is a tiny little town in Texas that fewer than 2,000 people call home, but that’s only if we count the people we can see. This old pre-civil war town has had countless ghost stories swirling around for many generations, and there’s one historically haunted hotel here that many believe could be a portal to the other side. If you’re brave enough, you can rent a room at this haunted hotel in Texas and do a little paranormal investigating of your own. Who knows, you may just come face to face with a former resident that just can’t seem to cross over.
Welcome to the Jefferson Hotel, a historic and charming hotel located in downtown Jefferson.
The building is well over 100 years old, and with many older buildings, a ghost story or two is bound to get passed down through the ages. This particular hotel, though, has more than one ghost story.
Originally built as a cotton warehouse in the 1850s, the Jefferson has seen countless businesses come and go over the years, but no matter who had the keys, there were always things that just couldn’t be explained.
It was even a speakeasy and a gambling den at one point.
Since converting into a hotel, guests have the opportunity to rest their head alongside a piece of Texas history.
Whether it’s a haunted history or not, you can be the judge.
The hotel has had so many paranormal encounters, they’ve set up a “Book of the dead,” which serves as a guestbook of sorts for guests to record their strange occurrences here.
You can also check out the hotel’s Youtube channel to see what’s been captured on the security system.
Two of the most popular ghost sightings are known as the Mill Children, two kids about seven years old that are believed to be casualties from when the building was a cotton warehouse.
Many guests and employees have heard the sounds of children’s laughter and disembodied footsteps that sound like kids running down a hall...yet there are no children around.
They aren't the only ghosts here, though.
The Vanishing Man is another commonly seen spirit. This tall male figure is always seen wearing a long coat and doesn’t do much, he just stands there...watching you. Some guests have even mistaken him for an employee, only to realize their mistake when they watch him vanish right before their eyes.
So what do you think? Could you spend a night in the most haunted hotel in Texas?
Sweet dreams!
