There are hundreds of prisons in Texas – I mean, it makes sense given our size – but not all of them are well known. Not all of them are known for being the place infamous killers call (or called) home, or where activity so dangerous it makes headlines occurs. But these 5 places aren’t just any old jail. They’re the most vile and dangerous prisons in the state of Texas.
This prison is the home of Charles Albright, a 1990's serial killer who finished his victims off in the same grisly manner - by removing their eyeballs and keeping them as souvenirs.

This unit housed Henry Lee Lucas, a murderer convicted of killing 11 people but who may have killed as many as a few hundred. His death sentence was lowered to life in prison in 1998, but he died of heart failure in his cell before he could serve his time completely.

This death row unit is comprised of only solitary cells where inmates spend 22 hours of their day. The remainder of the time is spent engaging in caged recreation, meaning that although they can exercise, they must do so within the confines of barbed wire cages without any contact or interaction with fellow inmates. Many of those incarcerated here are reported to suffer from various psychological disorders but are still deemed sane enough for execution.
Speculated to be the largest private prison in America, this enormous detention center is notorious for lack of adequate medical care for inmates. A prisoner actually died after having a seizure because the staff didn't tend to his condition appropriately. In response, inmates waged several riots, setting parts of the complex on fire and holding staff members hostage.
