After its tragic cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic, the State Fair of Texas is back and better than ever this fall.
Many people come "just" for the food - the word "just" is in quotes because that's more than reason enough to visit! From deep-fried everything to turkey legs the size of your head, this place is a foodie's wildest dream.
Fun has no age limit, so get ready to unleash your inner child on more than 70 carnival rides.
From thrilling, high-speed roller coasters to trippy fun houses to the largest Ferris wheel in Texas, there's enough to keep every member of the family entertained all day long. You'll pay for rides with State Fair Food & Ride Coupons, which can be purchased at the fairgrounds or online.
Next up, mosey on over to the midway and try your hand at some of the games.
You'll be overcome with nostalgia as you knock over milk bottles, toss rings around soda cans, and fill balloons up with water. Keep your eye on the prize (literally) - you just might win big if you stay focused! All fairgoers must purchase a Big Tex Game Card to play games. The cards are sold at booths and kiosks adjacent to the gaming areas.
Hundreds of shows and activities take place each day, so there's never a dull moment.
You can watch the rodeo or pet adorable barn animals in the afternoon, then enjoy live music and fireworks after dark. Other activities include livestock shows, contests, shopping, and football games.
Whatever you do, make sure to stick around for the Starlight Parade, a time-honored State Fair of Texas tradition, every night at 7:15 p.m.
With colorful floats, life-size puppets, stilt-walking performers, and animated characters, this dazzling spectacle is the perfect ending to a full day of old-fashioned family fun.
Ticket prices vary by day of the week, starting at $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Everyone pays child's prices after 5 p.m.
Premium tickets, which allow you to attend the fair on any of its 24 days, start at $24 and are only available online.
