The history behind this remote hotel near Austin is both eerie and fascinating.
The Magnolia Hotel dates all the way back to the 1840s.
This little building began its life as a log cabin. After owner James Campbell was brutally killed by Comanches, this modest building became the city's first stagecoach station. Years later, it became the city's first hotel.
Many noteworthy events happened here.
In 1846, Magnolia Hotel was sold to Jeremiah S. Calvert, the city's Chief of Justice. He hosted many weddings inside the gorgeous building — including his daughter's. Susan Calvert married famous Texas Ranger John "Jack" Coffee Hays here.
If these walls could talk, they would have bone-chilling stories to tell.
In 1874, one of Texas' most crazed killers stayed here. In the middle of the night, madman Wilheim Faust stole a horse from the Magnolia Hotel and rode it to New Braunfels. He then mistakenly murdered a 12-year-old girl before attacking his wife. After these violent acts, Faust rode back to Seguin and slept peacefully in his bed at The Magnolia Hotel. He eventually confessed to killing two people previously. Faust was shot through the Seguin courthouse window.
The hotel was eventually abandoned in the 1990s.
Like any abandoned building, The Magnolia Hotel became a hot spot for seedy activity. In 2012, it was placed on Texas' most endangered list. One year later, it was restored back to it's 1880s glory.
Today, visitors can venture through the halls and search for paranormal activity.
Ghost tours happen weekly, and you're almost certain to see something spooky. People have reported seeing spectral images and ghostly orbs floating through hallways. In fact, this place is so haunted that it's been featured on several TV shows like "Ghost Adventures" and "When Ghosts Attack."
