This tiny town hasn’t expanded in recent years and instead has maintained its rural charm and ease. Unicoi is a small-town located in East Tennessee that is known for its natural beauty and small-town population. In 2010, a mere 3,632 folks lived in Unicoi per the official census.

Folks who don't live in Unicoi tend to visit during the months of May, June, and September for the lush summer foliage and great weather. If you make your way to town in January or February, be prepared for chillier weather!

The town's name is derived from the Cherokee word, "unika," which means white or fog-like. The mountains of the area tend to boast morning and seasonal fog, which is where most folks believe the inspiration for the name came from.

Although it's cold in the wintertime, the town of Unicoi is a great spot for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The Pinnacle Trail that meanders its way up Buffalo Mountain is one of the most popular treks in the area.

There are all sorts of hiking trails located in and around the town of Unicoi, some that take you straight up into the mountains and boast great views, and others with beautiful waterfalls.
