Hiking to waterfalls is one of the best things we get to do here in Tennessee, and if you are a waterfall chaser like we are, then this one will be for you. The Short Springs Natural Area has three waterfalls that you can see all in one place. As an avid hiker, these are the kind of trails I love to find because they are filled with rewards. Part of the difficulty is putting in the research to know where these beautiful places are in our state… but we have done that work for you. So when you are looking for your next adventure in Tullahoma, Tennessee, keep this one in mind.
The Short Springs Natural Area is a treasure trove just waiting to be explored.
There is an interwoven trail system here, and if you plan the route just right you get to find three different waterfalls! Machine Falls, Busby Falls, and Adams Falls can all be easily seen from this five-mile trail. With an elevation gain of 662 feet, this trek will be moderately difficult, but completely manageable. The trail system is well maintained and well marked, so follow the signs for each loop and you’ll easily find each waterfall. Machine Falls is the best-looking waterfall in the forest, and well worth the trip for that alone.
Busby Falls is not as tall, but still beautiful. The way that the water flows over the rocks, gently falling, and creating that magical sound makes this a great place to stop and rest for a while. Relax to the sweet sounds and marvel at the natural wonder.
Many people might be tempted to skip this part of the loop, but the hike getting out there will still provide you with some much-needed time in the quiet woods enjoying some time outside. So those who choose to complete the loop will be rewarded with a scenic forest *and* a waterfall.
Fortunately, less than a 10-minute drive from the falls brings you to a local favorite, One22West. This restaurant has been part of the community for over two decades and is known for its delicious and diverse menu.
Inside you will find that One22West leans towards being upscale but maintains being casual. The dishes available on the menu are hand-crafted and original. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is very friendly.
If you have worked up an appetite while chasing waterfalls you are in luck because the menu options are varied at One22West, so there should be something your everyone's palate.
