Escape To A Secluded Waterfall With A Short Hike On The Piney Falls Trail In Tennessee
Hiking in Tennessee is one of the main pastimes of most locals, especially since the state is so varied topographically. You can hike deep gorges or along stunning waterways, through old-growth forests, and along rocky ridges. Of course, if you’re looking to combine a level of all four, you can head to Piney Falls. Secluded and stunning, it’s a fabulous place to wander if you’d rather spend an afternoon enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors.

You can find the hike to Piney Falls in the Piney Falls State Natural Area. The natural area consists of over 800 acres of pristinely lush Tennessee wilderness, and both Little Piney and Soak Creek have carved significant ridges into the area's topography.

You'll hike through an old growth forest on your way to the falls, so keep an eye out for the hemlocks and white pines that tower high above you. Some are larger than 40 inches in diameter!

With trees towering up to 100 feet above you, you'll feel as if you've wandered into a fairy tale. The hike in its entirety is just under two miles total, so make sure you soak up the beauty while you can.

You'll gain roughly 350 feet as you make your trek, and keep in mind that the route trail is considered "moderate." You'll want to bring water along and maybe even a snack.

If you come in the springtime you'll find myriad of wildflowers blooming along the trail which only adds to the area's natural beauty.

The trail is both kid and dog-friendly, but all animals must be kept on a leash. Watch out for the waterways, and keep an eye on the path ahead. There are rocky sections!
