Maybe it's the potential for ghosts or perhaps the excitement that comes with urban adventuring. Here in Tennessee, the Old South Pittsburg Hospital has become one of the most popular spots to visit for ghost seekers and paranormal adventurers alike. We give you the Old South Pittsburg Hospital history, and perhaps you will plan a trip for yourself. You can even stay overnight if you dare!

The Old South Pittsburg Hospital might not look like much from outside, but it's known as one of the most storied and haunted locations in the state. It's located at the base of the South Pittsburg Mountain and has been a hotspot for ghost hunters since it closed in 1998.

In 1959, the facility was founded as the South Pittsburg Municipal Hospital. The 68,000 square foot medical facility was built in response to the growing needs of the local community.

The hospital is located on what was once the land of the local Chiaha Native American Tribe. During the Civil War, the tribe allowed Union soldiers to store supplies on the property, but the area was later infiltrated by the Confederate army. Both Union soldiers and members of the Native American tribe were killed.

Some folks believe that this reclamation of land and loss of life is what spurred the spiritual activity in the hospital. Others tend to think that it's the memory of the sick and dying that haunts the land. Either way, the Old South Pittsburg Hospital has made quite the name for itself.

Locals and visitors alike claim that they've heard noises, seen ghostly figures, and caught supernatural entities on film. Even former employees that worked in the Old South Pittsburg Hospital when it was fully operational claim that inanimate objects would move on their own, and dark shadows stalked the halls.

The third floor of the hospital is said to be the home of a seven-foot-tall ghost that bellows at the living to leave them be. There's said to be a female spirit who takes on the personality of a "naughty nurse," and there's a toddler that plays along the second floor. He's cheekily called "Buddy."

If you want to visit the Old South Pittsburg Hospital for yourself, you can choose to pay $75 to be a part of an overnight investigation.
